Lloydminster’s Marleigh Mann is the overall winner of this year’s Agriculture Student Scholarship and gets $6,000 for her post-secondary studies.
Also, Clare Wever of Lloydminster, along with Katie Moyle from Hanley and Madalynn Anderson from Rosetown were all awarded $3,000 as the runners-up.
Mann who was recently awarded the Lloydminster Lions’ Junior Citizen of the Year accolade is signed up to Lakeland College in the fall and will play hockey with the Rustlers. She also plans to continue her sciences at the U of S.
Mann’s award-winning essay delved into the future of sustainable agriculture, promoting innovation, adaptability, and the overall vitality of the industry. She advocated for building public trust and transparency through educational opportunities such as farm tours and social media campaigns surrounding sustainable agricultural practices.
Mann who will represent Holy Rosary High School at the provincial Canada Skills contest on May 8-9 in welding sees the agriculture industry heading in a positive direction.
Meanwhile, Wever who is a Holy Rosary grad is at the University of Saskatchewan with hopes of becoming a veterinarian.
In a congratulatory message, Federal Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay sees young people as the future of the industry.
“By furthering their post-secondary education, these young people are setting a foundation for successful careers in a strong, sustainable agricultural sector,” said the federal minister.
