City councillor Lorelee Marin shared greetings on behalf of the City of Lloydminster as the Lakeland College women’s basketballers met at Spiro’s Restaurant for the launch of a forthcoming documentary that’s following their journey to nationals 2022.
Marin echoed the sentiment of the gathering that is anticipating the completion of the project.
“I can’t wait to share this whole documentary with our community when it is done.”
Filming by recently formed Two Fold Films has been ongoing for almost a year. Co-founders Kim Capiral of Nara Studios and photographer Jessie Mann have been literally following the players and coaching staff with their cameras to numerous practices and all their league matches, to capture what they call the truthful cinema experience in documenting the lives of this team.
The team is currently ranked third in Canada and nationals are slated for mid-March. Mann dishes on the organic process that is unfolding.
“Kim spoke about truthful cinema and we really believe in letting this play out naturally and following the girls on what we hope, and what we know in our core is that national championship. So once the national championship is achieved, and the season wraps; we kind of wrap up all of the different story lines and we are going to be putting this thing together.”
Mann sees the development of the documentary as a testament to the city getting behind creatives, especially with the sponsorship they have received from Synergy Credit Union as the platinum sponsor.

“It just resonates with us so well. It fits all of the criteria that we look for in supporting our community; their health and well-being, their education and again, just helping with the whole economic downturn creating some positivity.”
Kim Capiral says that documentaries like this aren’t always done about women in sport. A big part of his reason is also his kids, and as well that such a production can be undertaken in the Border City.
“I’ve always believed that a big scale production can be done here in Lloydminster. We are happy that it’s finally starting. One, we want to do a film here, but two, we want to engage and inspire people. There’s another world here that you can touch and you can excel.”
The creative duo have produced two trailers for the documentary which is called Second Bounce. Residents can view these on their YouTube channel and follow their website Two Fold Films for more information.
Once the season is over they will be going into post production and are looking for a streaming service to release the final cut in the fall.
