Lloydminster Lions donates to local non-profits

A few Lloydminster non-profits are the recipients of funding courtesy of the Lloydminster Lions Club.

The recipients include the Lloydminster Minor Hockey Association, LCHS Barons Junior Football, Lloydminster Kiwanis Music Festival, Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, Residents in Recovery, and Explosion Cheer Academy.

Executive Director with Residents in Recovery Tyler Lorenz expressed his gratitude for the Lions’ support noting that a lot has changed since he last spoke to the group to share about their work.

“Our focus is on family treatment. We still have two sober living houses, but we have 11 beds as compared to 27 when I was last here. We have 25 families and 56 kids in our program. So, it’s an extremely busy place.”

Coming out of the music festival, 16 students are heading to provincials in Saskatoon, says president, Kerry Taylor.

“This year we had an exceptional standard of students. Next week we have 16 children going from our festival to provincial competition in 49 separate classes. It’s a record for us. The adjudicators tell us that the talent in Lloydminster is exceptional.”

Taylor says they had about 1500 kids participate in the festival this year with 19 school bands.

Explosion Cheer Academy is heading into its fifth season. The group is back from Cheer Worlds in Orlando, Florida and the plan is to make it to the Canadian Cheerleading finals.
