The work taking place along 75 Avenue is not preparation for the proposed Costco Lloydminster. Work crews have been active along 75 Avenue just south of 29 Street.
City of Lloydminster crews are relocating dirt from Lake K which is the retention pond being built at the new hockey arena to the area south of 29 Street between 73-75 Avenues. That work, according to letters sent out to residents in the area will last over the next three months. It involves topsoil removal, replacement, and landscaping. The dirt will be used for future city developments.
Meanwhile, the proposed Costco is to be located at 75 Avenue and 19 Street which is 10 streets further south, and next to the ATCO power station. There is no work taking place at this site. It’s listed on the Government of Alberta website as set to begin in 2024 with a completion date of Aug. 31, 2025, being listed on the Costco website.
The big-box store will have 160,000 square feet on 19.6 acres of land with about 906 parking stalls when complete.
Work like mass grading has to be done, and the fills that are about 4 metres thick will then be put in. There could be a three-month wait until work begins on the concrete slab for the warehouse. Actual work on the warehouse is listed from March 2025.
