County of Vermillion River Protective Services Busy with Grass Fires Across the Region

Over the weekend of August 10th and 11th, 2024, The County of Vermillion River – Protective Services reported many grass fires in their north district.
With day time high temperatures hoovering around 25 °C and above, with little relief over the last few weeks, the fire condition category has stayed at EXTREME in the County of Vermilion River.
County Fire crews actioned three separate fires in the afternoon of August 10th, 2024.
Dewberry Fire & Rescue and Clandonald Fire dealt with a grassfire caused by down powerlines that had also caused some power outages up on Range Road 52 and Township 532. As of 3:28 p.m that afternooon, the fire was extinguished and power restored in the area by ATCO.
Up north of Tulliby Lake, Marwayne Fire was dispatched just past 1 p.m. for a reported grassfire near an oil well site with mutual aid requested from Kitscoty Fire Department.
County #9-6 (PSO Armitage) was also called out. At 2:10 p.m. Marwayne Fire Chief Ron Miske reported the fire was contained and crews were extinguishing hot spots.
Just as crews were coming back into service, a 3rd grassfire was reported, sending Kitscoty Fire back out just before 5 p.m. south on Range Road 30.
All crews were back at their halls and back in service, after 7pm that evening.
