A Business Mental Health Navigator Program is a new feature that’s available along with a free mental health check-in quiz for this year’s National Depression Screening Day activities.
The event hosted by the Calgary Counselling Centre will see a week of programming from Oct. 7-13.
Marcus Cheung with Calgary Counselling Centre and Counselling Alberta says the centre has a full-time counsellor to help identify options to help small businesses.
“If there is anything we can do cooperatively or within the organization to improve mental health strategies. If businesses have concerns about the staff’s mental health or mental health in general and within the organization.”
Business owners and staff often face unique stressors, from long hours and financial pressure to isolation and burnout and the Business Mental Health Navigator Program offers personalized guidance in connecting them with affordable, effective mental health services like counselling, workshops, or other resources.
The centre is having the week of activities as it shares its concerns about “the damaging effect of depression on people’s mental health.” The free mental health check-in quiz is a useful tool to gauge where you may be at.
“One in four people in Canada become depressed at some point in their lives. However, the good news is we know that depression is highly treatable,” says Cheung.
The website is called, areyoufeelingok.com. The quiz is available in six different languages and is anonymous.
The centre is also spreading positive messages about mental health to reduce the stigma attached to people coming in to seek help, adds Cheung.
