College Park will once again train its telescope to the stars as the local observatory studies the life cycle of a star.
Two University of Alberta doctoral candidates will share an online presentation to focus on everything from a star being born to its passing.
“Stars are not forever – and, understanding the lifecycle of stars is one of the pillars of astronomy. We will present a guided tour through the birth, life, and eventual death of stars,” says Joshua Peltonen.
Joshua Peltonen and Margaret Ridder bring research experience and a shared passion for making astronomy accessible to the public.
Joshua is a Ph.D. candidate using the James Webb Space Telescope to study star formation in nearby galaxies. He has been fascinated with astronomy since childhood and loves sharing his knowledge. Margaret is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in astrophysics. Her research aims to unlock mysteries surrounding stellar activity and accretion processes.
The free one-hour presentation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7:00 p.m., at College Park School Theatre.
The use of the telescope is weather-dependent, and the forecast calls for partly cloudy skies that will hopefully clear on Tuesday evening.
