Childcare facility coming to old bus depot

The old Greyhound bus depot is to be repurposed for an Alberta-licensed children’s care space run by Residents in Recovery.

The plan is to tailor the space to serve high-needs and neurodivergent children, says the recovery group.

Residents in Recovery Society is buying the old bus depot and will soon be looking for contractors to get the renovations underway for its children’s resource centre.

“We have been operating a childcare facility for our families there since 2022. The purchase of the facility will allow us the opportunity to renovate and get licensed as an AB childcare facility, plus add capacity for community spaces,” says Tyler Lorenz, executive director.

The non-profit plans to cater to 55 children from infants to preschool. The group needs about 30 spaces and will offer the extra spaces to the community.

Services available will comprise one-on-one therapy, mentoring, and assessments for both children and families. Also, an area will be devoted to Unyte’s Safe and Sound Protocol for all children two and up. There will be indoor and outdoor playgrounds for motor skill development and recreation. Also, a commercial kitchen.

An infirmary catering to mothers to support them as they work their addiction day programs.

Residents in Recovery notes more details will be forthcoming. It is thankful for all of the community support as it continues to serve what it calls “this huge gap in our community by supporting the next generation.”
