Lloydminster’s Momentum Volleyball Club will see several of its teams heading to Sask Volleyball Provincials in the coming weeks.
“We have eight teams in our club from 13U to 17U. Each age group will have Provincials throughout the middle of April to the beginning of May,” says head coach Cory Gratton.
The club is riding high with top notch performances from a tournament in Phoenix. Up against over 80 other teams, the Lloydminster U15 outfit led a solid final win at the Festival Fiesta Classic over the Bay Area Volleyball Club from San Francisco.
“We sent two-15U teams, one-16U team and two-17U teams,” says Gratton adding, “This was quite unique in that we’re the only club in a fairly large radius to be sending that many teams at one time.”
“Our 13U and 15U teams competed at Sask Cup 2 in Saskatoon on the weekend (Mar. 17). The 13U group finished the tournament in 4th place out of 36 teams. They earned a silver medal at Sask Cup 1 which means the team will go into provincials ranked in the top 3 in April,” says Gratton.
The 15U teams were also in action facing the competition in Warman with one team securing gold.
“Our Red team finished the tournament in 10th spot out of 48 teams while the Black team won gold – only losing one set all tournament. Momentum remains the only club to have two teams in the top 10,” says Gratton.
Just prior to that the club’s 17U black team finished fifth at their Sask Cup while the 16U group won bronze.
Driving with such momentum, the young volleyball talent from Lloydminster will look to make their mark at Saskatchewan Provincials starting in April.
