Lloydminster Learning Council celebrates 50 years

The Lloydminster Learning Council is celebrating 50 years of service in 2025.

Over 40 students in three levels of English learning from this year’s winter program graduated this week.

Cultures from the Philippines, Cuba, Chile, China, Eritrea, Mexico, Pakistan, Poland, Ukraine, Algeria, Benin, and Syria are in this group of graduates. Many of them are newcomers to Canada.

Doreen McCaw, president of the Learning Council, recognizes the amazing milestone for the group that has deep roots in Lloydminster.

“The hard work of all of our staff, board members, and volunteers over the years have brought us to this point in time.”

McCaw notes the joy of achievement among the English language learners.

“It’s great to see all of the people coming together. All of the learners that we have served in the last year. It’s an amazing evening, and we are really pleased.”

The celebration featured handing out of certificates, and cultural pieces from Mexico, Ukraine and the Philippines, along with tasty cuisine from some of the cultures present.

McCaw shares the excitement that the Learning Council holds for its future growth.

“We see the fruits of all the hard work that we have done as a team and as an organization over the last 50 years, and we look forward to what the future has in store for us and serving learners in our community. That’s what we do.”
