Parkinsons Step N’ Stride Unites Friends, Families

Around 100 Participants took to the trails of Bud Miller Park over Saturday Morning, celebrating the 2023 Step N’ Stride for the Parkinson’s Association of Alberta.

The walk, which serves as an awareness campaign for the disease which is defined as a brain disorder that causes unintended or uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination.

Brandi La Bonte, representing the Parkinson’s Association says that events like this are more than just about awareness.

“To be able to come back strong and have a hundred plus people here… you can’t do better”.

La Bonte adds, “It’s a sense of community.  It’s a job of service.  Looking at the poeple who live with a progressive neuroligical disorder every day, but not let it define them.”

While she says the Parkinson’s Association of Alberta serves 3,000 clients, Brandi adds that 12-15,000 people live with the disease across the province.
