Several First Nations across Canada including some in Alberta and Saskatchewan are getting federal dollars under the First Nations Indigenous Guardians projects.
Over $12.8 million has been approved for 41 new and 49 existing projects to protect and conserve lands, waters, and culture while providing meaningful employment opportunities, say officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Among the Alberta First Nations for new projects are:
- Beaver Lake Cree Nation – $63,000
- Cold Lake First Nations – $100,000
Existing projects:
- Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation – $175,000
- Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation – $175,000
- Dene Tha’ First Nation – $175,000
- Mikisew Cree First Nation – $175,000
Saskatchewan First Nations extended projects include:
- File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council – $150,000
- Wanuskewin Heritage Park Authority – $100,000
- Ya’thi Néné Lands & Resource – $150,000
