There was a heavy police presence at Weaver Park campground in Lloydminster after a serious incident on the evening of Saturday June 29th, 2024.
The police taped off a section of campground because of debris from two damaged RVs.
Around 7pm on Saturday, a member of the Lloydminster RCMP was responding to and investigating a weapons complaint. The suspect, a man, ended up in the Weaver Park Campground.
At this point, the man stole an occupied RV on the campground and drove it toward the officer, who fired their gun.
The man driving the RV then collided with parked vehicles while trying to make his escape, disabling the RV once he hit a tree.
The officer then arrested the suspect.
The collision injured people in the RV and others nearby, including the police officer. The suspect however was not injured.
The RCMP release did not give an exact number on how many people were hurt,
but some did go to hospital, and the officer sustained some minor injuries.
Charges for the man are currently pending.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) will not be examining what happened at the Weaver Park Campground on the Saskatchewan side of Lloydminster.
Lloydminster RCMP have started their internal review processes to gather a full account of how the incident played out, including police training, policy and response.
