Fire restrictions in Alberta, Saskatchewan

A few fire advisories and restrictions are in place for areas to the east and west of Lloydminster.

In Saskatchewan, a fire ban is in place for Meadow Lake. Fire restrictions are in effect for Payton and Loon Lake areas.

A fire restriction means no new permits will be issued, no fireworks,  and check previous burn sites. Permitted activities are:

  • Safe wood campfires (including backyard fire pits)
  • Charcoal briquette barbeques
  • Propane/natural gas appliances

On the Alberta side, west of Lloydminster, fire advisories and restrictions are in place for County of Vermilion River, Two Hills, Edgerton and Beaver County including Viking, Holden, Ryley, and Tofield.

A complete fire ban is in place for the Wainwright Dunes Ecological Reserve.

While an advisory offers recommendations due to dry conditions, a restriction means all existing permits are suspended, and no burning is to take place. Fires in a fire pit that do not require a permit are still allowed.
